Blue Star Mothers' Ongoing Activities

MEETINGS: Santa Clarita Valley Chapter #91 of the Blue Star Mothers of America Inc. meets 7:30 p.m. the first and third Wednesdays of the month at Centre Pointe Church, 24422 Chesnut, Newhall, CA 91321.

DUES: Membership dues are just $10 -- half goes to the National Blue Star Mothers and the other half helps cover Chapter 91's administrative costs, which include creating and taking care of the stars hanging on the tree at Santa Clarita City Hall.

COMFORT PACKAGES: The Chapters ongoing activities include collecting donated and purchased items and assembling and shipping comfort packages to young men and women on tour overseas at various times throughout the year, especially holidays.

Here's an example of the letters the Moms get back:

"Blue Star Moms:

I really don't know where to start on my appreciation on the care packages that you have sent me. I really do thank you all so much for them. I have shared them with my fellow Marines, and they all say 'Big thanks,' and they all chowed down on the goodies. The stuff you have sent are things everyone uses on a daily basis. You brought tears to my eyes, because it shows that while we are over here, there are still people who care. So thank you again, and again, and again, and again......

Have a great day, and Semper Fidelis (Always Faithful),
Cpl. Guccione, USMC"

HEARTS FOR HEROES: SCV Chapter #91 also coordinates the "Hearts for Heroes" project in which local students from elementary through high school create greeting cards with words of encouragement and support to send to our troops.

OPERATION PAPERBACK: "Operation Paperback" is always in need of donations of paperbacks and other reading material to send to our troops in hot zones.

OPERATION DIGNITY: The Chapter's "Operation Dignity" collects men's pajamas to provide to our veterans in local VA hospitals and to med units overseas.

CONTACT/HOW YOU CAN HELP: For more information or to make a donation, contact Tina Perez, Vice President (also Past Chapter President, National 2nd Vice President) at 661-299-1451.

Support America's Wounded Heroes!

Every day a wounded veteran and their family must struggle to overcome the loss of a limb, significant burns, or even the reality of being in a wheelchair.

The Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes is an independent, non-partisan 501(c) (3) organization, created to provide an easy way for individuals and organizations to support our troops and their families who have sacrificed so much in Iraq and Afghanistan. Their mission is to help our wounded overcome these obstacles and resume a productive and fulfilling life.

With the support of many individuals and organizations, the Coalition has undertaken the development of conferences to help the wounded, projects to build homes for the paralyzed, programs to support families visiting their wounded loved ones in military hospitals, as well as many other initiatives. Donations are tax deductible.
